Monday February 8 at 7 p.m. is our February Virtual PTA Meeting. We will have a great guest speaker immediately following the general meeting. Deidra Fisher will be joining us for a quick talk on how we can help make our kids stand out on their college applications. Information on the speaker and her topic are below. How to Stand out in College Admissions: This information session addresses the most important priorities for colleges when reviewing applications and making decisions. You'll learn about the key factors admission committees consider, the impact of SAT/ACT testing in the COVID era, and discover ways to improve your student profile. This session is an essential starting point for any high school student beginning the college application journey.
Deidra Fisher, founder of OneUp College Consulting, is a former high school English teacher, professional writer and business consultant and mother to two girls: one who graduated from Northwestern University in 2018 and another who graduated from SMU in 2020. She holds a BA in English Literature and a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction. Deidra previously worked in graduate school recruiting and admissions for the SMU Simmons School of Education and Human Development, and also teaches pre-college prep courses through SMU's Lifelong Learning department. She has counseled hundreds of students on the college admissions process and helps place students in a diverse range of colleges across the United States.
PTA NOMINATING COMMITTEE
AT THE NEXT PTA GENERAL MEETING ON FEBRUARY 8 WE WILL BE ASKING FOR FIVE VOLUNTEERS AND TWO ALTERNATES TO SERVE ON THE NOMINATING COMMITTEE FOR THE 2021-22 PTA BOARD. If you are interested in serving, please plan to attend the PTA general meeting on Zoom. Volunteers for this committee should have a wide range of knowledge of how PTA committees work as well as lots of friends willing to participate in one of the oldest PTAs in Texas. We are 93 years strong. The more the merrier.

H-E-B SCHOLARSHIP: For the third consecutive year, H-E-B is awarding 15 Texas High School seniors who are active in UIL Music, Athletics and/or Academics competitions AND have been active in community service initiatives with a $2,000 scholarship to their college/university of choice. The application deadline is February 12, 2021. Recipients will be announced in the Spring of 2021. Applicants must complete the online application form and submit all supporting documents before the February 12 deadline to be eligible.
