Good evening, Wildcat Families.

First, on this Memorial Day, I want to honor all of those who gave their life fighting for the liberties that make our country so special. Over the last year during the pandemic I learned a new appreciation for simple freedoms that are often taken for granted. My hope remains that by maximizing student’s social, emotional, and academic growth over four years at Woodrow that each Wildcat will graduate with the confidence and skills to chase their passions without any barriers. Every day is preparation for the future. preparation. Thank you for partnering with us to make Woodrow the exemplary school for teaching and learning.

Willis Winters Park Student Survey

A six-member task force was organized by DISD and the Dallas City Council- three members appointed by Trustees (Marshall, Carreon, Henry) and three appointed by the Council (Blewett, Medrano, and Blackmon).

The task force is surveying students in grades 4-12 that attend Woodrow feeder pattern schools (and also Mata and OM Roberts) about their perspective on Willis Winters Park. The survey is anonymous and digital and we anticipate it will take no more than 5-10 minutes.

The goal is to collect as many surveys as possible by the end of May and then report back to the Board and the Council by August. Our intention is that our elected officials can use the student's perspective as a starting point when considering issues around the park (i.e. safety, accessibility, usability).

Please encourage your student to fill out the survey: Student Survey Link

Students can make a poster with their name, school they will be attending, and senior pictures of themselves, and we will post them in the front hallway for all to see! Directions for this will be posted in Remind and the Senior Cohort Google Classroom. At the second part of this event, students will be given a checklist to complete. These tasks include the following:

  1. Attendance For Credit
  2. Transcript Check In
  3. FASFA Completion

This will ensure that students are on track for graduation, that they have completed all the necessary steps for continuing education, and that they will have an ID to get into their Senior Prom! This event will be held in the big gym from 10:00-4:30. A sign up genius will be sent out through Remind and the Senior Cohort Google Classroom for students to select a time to attend. Welcome Back, Seniors

We are excited to welcome back seniors on April 12th. As students complete their last nine weeks of high school, we want to offer them the best experience possible.

Key Points:

  • Seniors will continue to enter through the new gym. Late arrival students enter through the guest entrance at the front.
  • They will report to the cafeteria where we will welcome them and review expectations before dismissing to 1st period.
  • Since PowerSchool does not have room numbers, we will email students a version with room numbers before Monday.
  • Dress code will be relaxed but appropriate. Monday they should wear their Senior shirt.
  • They should bring a charged laptop and any other items in a clear backpack for contactless entry.
  • We are trying to make sure most seniors will be able to have B lunch together.
  • We will have Tik Tok challenges throughout the day. See the flyer HERE.
  • You do not have to submit the Learning Preference Change Form to attend on Monday.

Good evening, Wildcat Families.

We hope everyone had a wonderful long weekend. This week is the last four days of the 3rd marking period. This grade will be critical for earning credit the second semester. We will also have our English I STAAR EOC test next Tuesday, April 13th. Per the Texas Education Agency, this test must be taken on campus and continues to be a graduation requirement. To make this day fun, we’re planning a “game day” theme to celebrate this milestone for our freshmen. Please have them wear their favorite jersey or team shirt so they bring their “A” game. We’ll have one more practice session Saturday from 9 to 12 this Saturday. That may mean the difference between scoring at the Meets and Masters level. Thank you for partnering with us to make Woodrow the exemplary school for teaching and learning.

Also, our counselors and ASP have planned a Super Saturday event to help students and families complete important items. We will utilize the cafeteria, hallways, and library to set up physically distant stations to support you with FAFSA/TASFA, Dallas County Promise, College Applications, Scholarship Applications, Jostens, and Yearbook Orders. Many of these tasks have deadlines the first week of February. In order to be safe and prepared to help each family, we will send suggested times to attend. Please reach out to your counselor or Ms. Baz (lbaz@aspdallas.org) with questions.

Good evening, Wildcat Families. There are just nine days left in the first semester. This week will follow the pattern B-A-A-B. Semester grades will be an average of the first and second nine weeks. There will be no formal ACPs. Teachers will administer their own exams as part of the second nine week grading cycle. A passing grade is not enough to earn credit. Students must also be in attendance 90% of the time the class is offered. There is a Google Classroom for those with excessive absences. Seat time must be made up by January 22. Interested in making changes to your student’s Learning Preference? No need to wait until February 1. Visit the At Home Learning page of our website to submit your request. Thank you for partnering with us to be the exemplary school for teaching and learning.

Welcome to Woodrow

January 28 from 6 – 8 PM

It is that time of the year again for next year’s course selections. We have created a Welcome to Woodrow website to help you learn more about the programs offered at Woodrow and it includes the course selection timeline and course sheets. Please take time to explore the website and prepare questions that you may have. We will host our Virtual Welcome to Woodrow night that is geared towards incoming 9th graders, but all are welcome, on Thursday, January 28 from 6-8pm. At this event, each program will host a 20-minute Q&A session. You can ask your questions at this time or reach out to the program contacts provided on the site. For academic guidance, starting January 18, you can find information on the timeline page to schedule a 15-minute conference with the counselor. In the meantime, we hope you enjoy exploring all the different things Woodrow Wilson High School has to offer. Check out the Welcome to Woodrow website. The flyers are available in English and Spanish.
