Principal Moran's Weekly Message

November 15, 2020

Wildcat Families:

This week marks week two of the second grading period. We will begin mailing report cards as soon as they are available Tuesday, November 17th. We will also share a link to a form to see if there are students and families interested in attending school four days a week when we return from Thanksgiving Break. Counselors and APs will also reach out to families struggling with Distance Learning to discuss changes necessary to make the second grading period a success. As COVID cases rise in the county and we near the holiday break, please continue to follow health guidelines to ensure the safety of your family and others. On campus we will continue to provide high quality learning experiences in a safe and welcoming environment. Thank you for partnering with us to make Woodrow the exemplary school for teaching and learning.

November is National Gratitude Month – Help Stock the “Culture Cart”

In order to help support our teachers and staff, we have created a Culture Cart with drinks and snacks. We’d like to provide a drink and snack to all of our staff members at least once a week. Please consider ordering an item or two from Amazon or Walmart (select “my item is a gift”) which will be sent directly to Woodrow. These treats go a long way.

Upcoming Exams – Common Assessments and STAAR EOC Re-Testing

The week we return from Thanksgiving, we will administer Common Assessments in our STAAR tested classes through the SchoolCity platform. These tests a critical to measuring effectiveness of instruction and determining necessary student supports. We will share more info this week.

Re-testing for STAAR EOC exams will begin on Tuesday, December 8th. We will share more details about tutoring and testing this week with those who need to participate because they failed previous attempts or did not receive credit last year.

Class 20201 Information

Dallas ISD has the goal that by June 2025, the percent of seniors completing a FAFSA will increase from 67 percent to 77 percent. In 2019 our percentage was 71% and we increased that number to 86% last year. We also had 99% of the Class of 2020 complete the Dallas County Promise Pledge. We have a way to go to meet that mark this year.

If you have questions about these processes, please review this FAQ and reach out to your counselor or Ms. Baz (lbaz@aspdallas.org) for support.

Wildcat Families:

This week marks the beginning of the second grading period. Report Cards will be available Tuesday, November 17th. Remember that in order to earn a credit, students must earn a passing grade and be in attendance at least 90% of the time the course meets. If students are unable to follow their assigned schedule for attendance and assignment completion, this requires a waiver to be completed and reviewed by the grade level administrator and counselor. The waiver is available on the school website. Their approved waiver is required for an alternative learning plan. Thank you for partnering with us to make Woodrow the exemplary school for teaching and learning.
