PTA MESSAGE

THIS THURSDAY, JANUARY 28 IS WELCOME TO WOODROW NIGHTWelcome to Woodrow is a great introduction for all our incoming 8th grade students to learn about all things Woodrow and the different academies available to our students. Please make plans to join us virtually this Thursday evening.

PTA NOMINATING COMMITTEE

AT THE NEXT PTA GENERAL MEETING ON FEBRUARY 8 WE WILL BE ASKING FOR FIVE VOLUNTEERS AND TWO ALTERNATES TO SERVE ON THE NOMINATING COMMITTEE FOR THE 2021-22 PTA BOARD. If you are interested in serving, please plan to attend the PTA general meeting on Zoom. Volunteers for this committee should have a wide range of knowledge of how PTA committees work as well as lots of friends willing to participate in one of the oldest PTAs in Texas. We are 93 years strong. The more the merrier.

WOODROW SWIM BOYS & GIRLS ARE STATE CHAMPS

WOODROW SWEPT ALL THE AWARDS including Boys and Girls Swimmers of the Meet (Freshman Campbell Chase and Sophomore Grant Closson) and Coaches of the Meet. Congratulations to Coaches Varner and Marshall and to the entire team for a great meet! This year marks the first District Championship for the Woodrow boys since 2014.  

Woodrow will send 24 swimmers to Regionals on February 4-5 in Frisco Texas. A special shout goes to the following Wildcat District 11-5A Champions: Jack Berube (200 Medley Relay, 200 IM, 200 Backstroke, 400 Free Relay), Campbell Chase (200 Medley Relay, 200 IM, 100 Free), Grant Closson (200 Medley Relay, 200 Free, 100 Free, 400 Free Relay), Jonathan Farner (200 Medley Relay, 400 Free Relay), Phoebe Johnson (200 Medley Relay, 100 Butterfly, 100 Backstroke), Aileen Moseley (200 Medley Relay), Tyler Patterson (200 Medley Relay, 500 Free, 100 Breaststroke, 400 Free Relay), David Stanford (100 Butterfly), and Irina Starostin (200 Medley Relay). Joining them at Regionals will be qualifiers Camryn Adcox, Maddy Allen, Caroline Burgard, Riley Daniel, Maxwell Freele, Leslie Hudspeth, Lauren Moffett, Pierra Paradise, Lily Roe, Eddie Stewart, Owen Tankersley, Dylan Tucker, Natalia Vales Rivera, Garrett Wright, and Jisoo Yoo. Thank you Coach B and Coach Ritzco for coming out to serve as timers for the meet! On to Regionals... GO WOODROW!

WOODROW CHEER TRYOUTS

THERE WILL BE A JV AND VARSITY CHEERLEADING AND MASCOT VIRTUAL TRYOUT MEETING on Thursday, February 4 from 6-7 p.m. Important tryout information including mandatory paperwork will be discussed. Both parents and athletes are encouraged to join! Use Zoom code 735 031 5728 and password GoCats.

LINK CREW HELP DAY

On peer mentoring program, Link Crew, has planned a freshman support day for Wednesday, January 27 from 9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. There will be fun activities, academic support, and the opportunity to make up seat time for excessive absences.  

The on-campus event is from 9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Lunch is provided. You can also join virtually.

NEWS & INFO FOR SENIORS

H-E-B SCHOLARSHIP: For the third consecutive year, H-E-B is awarding 15 Texas High School seniors who are active in UIL Music, Athletics and/or Academics competitions AND have been active in community service initiatives with a $2,000 scholarship to their college/university of choice. The application deadline is February 12, 2021. Recipients will be announced in the Spring of 2021. Applicants must complete the online application form and submit all supporting documents before the February 12 deadline to be eligible.

ON-CAMPUS SUPPORT: If you need to make up hours as well as turn in assignments before the end of the semester come to the on-campus support event Wednesday, January 27 from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.

SUPER SATURDAY: Our counselors and ASP have planned an event on Saturday, January 30 from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. to help students and families complete important items and provide support for FAFSA/TASFA, Dallas County Promise, college applications, scholarship applications, Jostens, cap and gown and yearbook orders. In order to be safe and prepared to help each family we will send suggested times to attend. Please reach out to your counselor or email Ms. Baz with questions.

WELCOME TO WOODROW WEBSITE

IT'S THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN FOR NEXT YEAR'S COURSE SELECTIONS. We have created a Welcome to Woodrow website to help you learn more about the programs offered at Woodrow and it includes the course selection timeline and course sheets. Please take time to explore the website and prepare questions that you may have. 

WE WILL HOST OUR VIRTUAL WELCOME FROM 6-8 P.M. ON THURSDAY, JANUARY 28. The Virtual Welcome to Woodrow night is geared toward incoming 9th graders, but all are welcome. At this event, each program will host a 20-minute Q&A session. You can ask your questions at this time or reach out to the program contacts provided on the Welcome to Woodrow site. For academic guidance, starting January 18, you can find information on the timeline page to schedule a 15-minute conference with the counselor.

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

WILDCAT FAMILIES

This is a busy last week of the first semester. Semester grades will be an average of the first and second nine weeks. On Wednesday there will be an opportunity for freshman and seniors to get additional on-campus support. Wednesday evening, the 9th grade team will host a virtual parent meeting to discuss the upcoming semester. Thursday night we will host our “Welcome to Woodrow” event from 6-8 p.m. Academies and programs will present information and answer questions to help with the course selection process. On Saturday, ASP and our counselors are hosting a Super Saturday event from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. to help seniors with applications, scholarships, ordering from Jostens, and more. As always, thank you for partnering with us to make Woodrow the exemplary school for teaching and learning.
