PTA MESSAGE

WOODROW PARENTS, HAPPY NEW YEAR! 2020 was a year full of challenges for all our Woodrow students, families and staff. I want to first thank all of our amazing Woodrow staff for working so hard for our students. Woodrow PTA has made it our mission this year to keep it “all about the family”. By keeping the focus on our students and staff this year, we hope to keep Woodrow a safe and fun place to work and learn.

We had a very successful HOCO fundraising campaign that has given us the ability to do some special things this semester. Even with COVID, we were determined to keep some Woodrow traditions going. We were able to have students do HOCO hall decorations and Woodrow PTA hosted our first ever, HOCO reverse parade/pep rally for our students.

For our Woodrow staff we were able to provide dinner on parent/teacher night, we gave out Woodrow Yeti style cups for Christmas gifts and welcomed our Woodrow staff back from holiday break with a customized Latte Bar to kick off 2021!

Woodrow PTA mounted a very successful fall membership drive with our families and staff. We have taken our membership numbers to new heights with both our families and Woo staff. We even provided a pizza party for our science dept that had the most staff join during our campaign.

We look forward to 2021 and our continued support of our students and staff.

PTA COMMITTEE OPENINGS

THE PTA IS LOOKING FOR A FEW MORE GREAT VOLUNTEERS TO FINISH THE YEAR STRONG. We have an opening for Commemorative Bricks, which is easy to do from your desktop. You are primarily collecting orders from graduating seniors and alumni. PTA is also in need of Spirit Wear volunteers who work to fill online orders and replenish stock and assist with inventory. Super fun volunteer position to meet lots of Wildcat fans near and far.

If you are interested in learning more please email Chris Prestridge at president@woodrowpta.org.

PTA NOMINATING COMMITTEE

AT THE NEXT PTA GENERAL MEETING ON FEBRUARY 8 WE WILL BE ASKING FOR FIVE VOLUNTEERS AND TWO ALTERNATES TO SERVE ON THE NOMINATING COMMITTEE FOR THE 2021-22 PTA BOARD. If you are interested in serving, please plan to attend the PTA general meeting on Zoom. Volunteers for this committee should have a wide range of knowledge of how PTA committees work as well as lots of friends willing to participate in one of the oldest PTAs in Texas. We are 93 years strong. The more the merrier.

SHOUT OUTS

WE JUST MADE WOODROW HISTORY! MacKenzie McCulloch not only made the Texas 5A All-State Band, she got First Chair at the Area audition out of 20 candidates!! This is incredible! Shout out to Mr. Evetts, Mr. Montez, and their students.

This past week Boys Soccer played RL Turner to a 1-1 tie. Girls Soccer split their two district matches with a win over Conrad and a close defeat versus RL Turner. Boys and Girls Basketball have a busy week with three games each. The district swim meet is set for Friday afternoon at Loos Natatorium.

SEND SHOUT OUTS to our Community Liaison Elizabeth Jurado.

WELCOME TO WOODROW WEBSITE

IT'S THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN FOR NEXT YEAR'S COURSE SELECTIONS. We have created a Welcome to Woodrow website to help you learn more about the programs offered at Woodrow and it includes the course selection timeline and course sheets. Please take time to explore the website and prepare questions that you may have.

WE WILL HOST OUR VIRTUAL WELCOME FROM 6-8 P.M. ON THURSDAY, JANAURY 28. The Virtual Welcome to Woodrow night is geared toward incoming 9th graders, but all are welcome. At this event, each program will host a 20-minute Q&A session. You can ask your questions at this time or reach out to the program contacts provided on the site. For academic guidance, starting January 18, you can find information on the timeline page to schedule a 15-minute conference with the counselor.

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

WILDCAT FAMILIES

There are just nine days left in the first semester. This week will follow the pattern B-A-A-B. Semester grades will be an average of the first and second nine weeks. There will be no formal ACPs. Teachers will administer their own exams as part of the second nine week grading cycle. A passing grade is not enough to earn credit. Students must also be in attendance 90% of the time the class is offered. There is a Google Classroom for those with excessive absences. Seat time must be made up by January 22.

Visit the PTA website to read Principal Moran's message.
