Way to go, Class of 2022!

A note on private lessons from Mr. Snider

Dear Parents and Students,

It has been a pleasure working with the Woodrow Wilson Band these last 2 weeks. The Woodrow Wilson High School Band has a list of  private lesson teachers that will help to enhance students’ musicality through one on one individual tutoring. Every student enrolled in band is encouraged to participate. This is a great way to set and achieve measurable goals with a Specialist on a specific instrument.

Some Ways Lessons Will Help Students

  • Excel at band contests
  • Better prepare to make the Dallas ISD All-City/Texas All-State/and Woodrow Wilson Ensembles
  • Play with more confidence at Solo and Ensemble Events
  • Better prepare for college scholarship auditions
  • Build individual confidence and self-esteem
  • Perform more successfully at all Dallas ISD Events
  • Even if band members are not pursuing music as a career, taking lessons teaches responsibility, goal setting, and commitment to a craft or process.

Here are  some reasons students should take lessons

1. A Private instructor can notice and correct minor technique issues and bad habits which might not be as visible in full band before they become a problem that is harder to correct.

2. Students advance at a faster rate and with more comprehension.

3. Private lesson teachers can reduce or even eliminate the frustration of learning to play an instrument.

4. Students can be given in-depth, individual attention to help them navigate the specifics of their instrument. Private Teachers have more in depth knowledge and a higher level of expertise on their instruments.

5. Some instruments are harder to play than others.

6. Students have a better chance of improving their skills more rapidly with one on one instruction, and earning points toward their senior/varsity letter jacket by trying out or making the Dallas ISD All-City Band, and or Region/All State Band.

Cost of Taking Lessons

Prices vary depending on your teacher.

Scheduling of Lessons

Lessons will be scheduled by the individual lesson teacher.

Most lessons will be scheduled sometime Monday-Friday for the duration of 30 minutes.

You may contact the lesson teacher to arrange a convenient time for your student.

Lesson Payments

Payments will be made directly to the students individual private lesson teacher.

Unexcused absences will not be made up nor refunds made.

To avoid any problems please give the teacher a 24 hour notice if a student is unable to make a scheduled lesson.

I encourage you to contact a private lesson teacher for your daughter or son.

There are several music stores or individuals in the Dallas area that offer private lessons also.

Thank you so much for your time and support. Do not hesitate to reach out to the band directors if you need help or more information.
